Anna DeForest writes fiction and essays concerning death, language, the value of suffering, and the trouble with being alive. They are the author of the novels A History of Present Illness, winner of the 2023 Rosenthal Family Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and Our Long Marvelous Dying, and they work as a palliative care physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
